“Having somewhere to go to is home. Having someone to love is family. Having both is a blessing.”

Building a thick foundation

It is important to build strong relationships with our family members as it enhances the connection and bonds among them. Keeping that in mind, Global Indian Internation school organised "Family Day" at GIIS Balestier Campus on Thursday, 1 June, where families joined together to have a jolly good time.

The programme included songs, skits and storytelling activities performed by kindergarten and primary students, the theme emphasising on the role of families in imparting valuable life lessons. This event followed with a talent competition wherein the child and parent formed a team and showcased their talent within a given time frame of 1 minute. The Kindness movement - initiative was also carried out where students, shared their acts of kindness in forms of notes.

The Amazing Race GIIS

The “Amazing Race GIIS” - ‘Scavenger Hunt’ a party game was organised in which each family as a team had to seek to gather a list of specific items. The list was prepared by GIIS staff and the teams had to go around the school campus and click pictures of the items per the list, a part of the many games that were organised. It included taking a picture of a Student Council member wearing a badge, taking a picture performing a yoga posture, solving a puzzle in the Montessori lab, quoting a learning from Mahatma Gandhi Visual Learning Centre, locating plants in School eco garden, taking a picture with the GIIS logo, SG50 wall mural, etc.

Young Entrepreneurs' skills put to the test

Other fun competitions included t-shirt painting and canvas painting. These fun activities were organised for Kindergarten to Class 4 students (Also for class 5 and 6) in their respective classrooms. In addition, students of classes 5 and 6 practiced their entrepreneurship skills via setting up game stalls at the campus, very much like a circus concept as part of Inter-house competition. Game prizes were provided by the school.

Parents were also invited to put up food stalls in the Family Carnival. The food stalls sold delectables such as Pani Puri, Sev Puri, Cupcakes, Bread Pakora, Noodles, etc. Parents from food stalls were given the option to donate any amount as per choice for various causes the campus is working for.

It was a fantastic celebration because of the collaboration between families and school. We hope that the event helped in building a strong bond between parents, teachers and students.
