GIIS Whitefield students get High Commendation and Verbal Mention titles at GIIS MUN
The trio of intellects namely Sanjit, Aditya and Sobith of our GIIS Whitefield participated in the prestigious GIIS MUN conference held in GIIS Chinchwad, Pune from 20th -23rd July, 2017 and bagged awards like High Commendation and Verbal mention. Model United Nation is an academic simulation of United Nations where students play the role of delegates from different countries to solve real world issues with the policies and perspectives of their assigned country. Rather than being a debater, students realize that there is no substitute for research, relevance of being a patient listener, talk about ideas rather than about people and the moral responsibility of throwing away their fear into the wilds to survive in a volatile, uncertain, chaotic and ambiguous world.
Sobith of Grade 8 bagged verbal mention by being a delegate of Saudi Arabia, a country well- known for its patriarchal mind-set and he shared recent steps taken by Saudi Arabia for women empowerment in front of delegates. As a delegate of Sweden, Aditya of Grade 9 who bagged verbal mention put forth Sweden as a country where children have strong rights of being listened to and the first country in the world to prohibit corporal punishment for children in the world. Sanjit of Grade 9 was given High Commendation. He was the delegate of South Korea in COPP22, discussed on challenges associated with use of renewable source of energy such as wind and solar energy with financial, technical and various infrastructural designs.
These students have gained more knowledge as citizens who act locally but think globally by inculcating the skills of inquirers, knowledgeable, futuristic thinkers and communicators. A special mention of Ms. Amanpreet Garg who helped these students prepare for MUN thoroughly. Ms Ria Liza George accompanied the students and boosted their confidence at the event. Global Indian International School (GIIS) Whitefield teachers give the best guidance to students which reflects in their high performance level in every competition. MUN is one good platform where students interact, deliver speeches and debate in a diplomatic manner.
